R.A.F. FLYING-BOAT DAMAGED

BEACHED IN SINKING STATE AT SYDNEY SYDNEY, February 2. One of the Royal Air Force flyingboats, which are visiting Sydney for the celebrations, began to sink at the mooringr in Rose Bay last night, and was beached with the fore portion flooded. The extensive damage to the hull is thought to have been caused by a small boat crashing into the side of the machine. The damage is estimated about £6OO, including the loss of charts, logbooks, and maps, and severe damage to the delicate precision instruments, cameras, and batteries. Squadron Leader -Feather, the commander, expressed the opinion that some curious person in a row-ing-boat, after or before inspecting the flying-boat, perforated the thin fuselage with a brass-tipped oar below the waterline. A six-inch jagged rip was discovered, through which the water had trickled for hours.
