RISK TO SWIMMERS

TIDE RIP AT MOUNT - PLEASANT JETTT

The risk to other than strong swimmers caused by the tide rip passing the end of the Mount Pleasant jetty was emphasised, in a letter from the Mount Pleasant Burgesses' Association which was received at a meeting of the Heathcote County Council. The letter asked that a notice be erected warning swimmers of the danger. This suggestion was accepted by the council, and the notice will be erected shortly.

The association also asked that the danger of persons being injured in the soft mud at the jetty at low tide be indicated on the sign. "When the tide is out there is a very strong rip," said the county clerk, Mr J. P. E. Veale. He had seen swimmers out past the jetty, but they did not seem to be troubled by the mud.
