Pouquet, whose appointment was announced in the Gazette on Thursday night, is something of a specialist on Near Eastern sficiirs Entering the consular service during the war, in 1915 he was stationed in Morocco, where he served until 1919. His next move, in the following year, was to Smyrna, Asia Minor, where he was stationed for the next five years. For the last 12 years M. Pouquet has been in the French Foreign Oifice in Paris, where his knowledge of affairs in Africa and Asia Minor was used in that division. He speaks Arabic, Persian, and Turkish, but it is not known if English is one of his accomplishments. The present Acting-Consul. Mr Edmond Meyer, has not yet been officially advised of M.
