The demolition of the wooden belfry on the old Normal School in Wellesley street east, Auckland, will remove a prominent feature of the architecture of a historic building, which was erected in 1877. Workmen were recently engaged on dismantling the tower, an ancient weather-vane being the first piece to be removed. The bell tower has not been used for that purpose for many years, and it is being dispensed with, so that the roof of the school can be satisfactorily repaired. The entire building will later be painted.

The popularity of Queenstown as a camping resort increases annually, and it is estimated that this year more than 3000 campers lived on the public camping ground and McKenzie's property. The peak was reached on New Years Eve, when there were nearly 2000 persons on the camping ground, which was one mass of tents, while below the cemetery many campers had stretched their canvas. In addition, there were several hundreds of campers in the district surrounding Queenstown. People from all parts of the Dominion have praised Queenstown's camping ground. "It seems rather extraordinary that many persons involved in motoring accidents do not have warrants of fitness for their vehicles " remarked Mr W. R. McKean, S.M., in the'otahuhu Magistrate's Court, when several motorists were, prosecuted for that offence Sergeant J. Daly said that in several minor accidents the vehicles were not certified. Convictions were entered in each case and motorists warned not to take their vehicles on the road while not in possession of the warrants required under the regulations.
