A supplementary Gazette issued yesterday announces the appointment of the Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers, Chief Justice, to be deputy for the Governor-General (Lord Galway) during his absence in Australia.—Press Association.
Mr A. L. Curry will leave this evening for a month's vacation in the North Island. Mr V. Williams, one of the best-known mountain guides in New Zealand, who has been chief guide at the Hermitage, Mount Cook, for the last nine years, has resigned his position. Mr Williams has been guiding at Mount Cook for 16 vears.
Mr John Fan-ell, representing J. C. Williamson, Ltd., lias arrived in Christchurch from the north to complete arrangements for the forthcoming production of the musical comedies "Over She Goes" and "Nice Goings On." A motion of sympathy with Mr E. H. Andrews, the deputy-Mayor, in the death of his wife was carried at a meeting of the Heathcote County Council last evening.
Dr. H. G. Denham returned from the North Isiand by the steamer express yesterday.. Mr F. Armstrong was a passenger from Wellington by the steamer express yesterday. Mr A. S. Elworthy was a passenger from the north by the steamer express yesterday. Mr C. Holdsworth was a passenger from the North Island by the steamer express yesterday morning.
Mr H. F. Nicoll was an arrival from Wellington by the steamer express yesterday.
Mr E. J. Corcoran returned to Christchurch from the North Island by the steamer express yesterday.
Motions of sympathy with the relatives of Messrs J. R. Thacker. of Okain's Bay, and J. R. Cooksley, of RedclifTs, a former councillor, were carried at a meeting of the Heathcote County Council last evening.
