A charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car in Hereford street on December 11 against Guy Clement Sigley was dismissed. On a charge of negligent driving he was fined £5, ordered to pay costs, and declared unfit to hold a licence for six months. A charge of dangerous driving was withdrawn. Senior-Sergeant Felton, who called six witnesses, said that Sigley had used a car without permission and was seen leaning heavily over the wheel. Driving in an erratic manner, he had struck a car correctly parked on the right hand side of the road from the direction in which he was- driving. He continued to drive erratically and when he returned the owner of the car. Mrs Florence Clara Simpson, said he was drunk. There was evidence that someone had been sick in the car. Mr D. W. Russell, who represented Sigley. contended that the evidence indicating intoxication was flimsy. He said that Sigley had been authorised to make repairs to the car and had been looking at the floorboard when driving. The Magistrate said that the evidence was insufficient to convict Siglfy on the charge of intoxication. TRAFFIC BREACHES The following penalties were imposed for breaches of the trartic regulations:—
