OFFICIAL FORECASTS ITHE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, January 21. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows:

Moderate to fresh northerly winds, turning to southerlies during Saturday. Weather fine and warm at first, but clouding: over later, and temperatures falling-. Seas rather rough north of Kaikoura; elsewhere slight to moderate.

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:—

Moderate to strong northerly Minds, turning: to southerlies. Weather changeable, and some rain probable. Temperatures becoming rather cooler. Seas moderate. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather fine generally at first, but cloud increasing in western districts from Taranaki southwards, and rain developing 1 shortly in western and southern areas of the South Island. Temperatures warm to hot, but becoming cooler to-morrow in the far south. An anti-oyclone is centred over the North Island, but it is of moderate intensity, and moving: slowly eastwards. A depression is advancing across the Tasman Sea, and a cyclone is still located over Queensland. Winds—Variable at first over the North Island: otherwise northerly prevailing. Light to moderate generally, but freshening about and south of Cook Strait, later backing to southerly over the southern half of the South Island. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough between Castlepoint and Kaikoura; elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising south of Cape Egmont and in Foveaux Strait.

Eastern Tasman—Moderate northeasterly winds in the northern portion, with slight to moderate seas. Moderate to fresh northerly to westerly winds, later backing to southerly in southern portion, with moderate to rather rough seas.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

A strong north-east wind blew in Christchurch all day yesterday. There was brilliant sunshine during the day. A maximum temperature of 67.3 degrees was reached. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was clear and a light easterly wind was blowing. The temperature was 60 degrees, and the barometer, which registered 29.75 inches, was falling.

Auckland—The weather was fine but hazy during the day. The wind was light to moderate from the south, and temperatures were warm, the maximum being 81 degrees. Barometric pressure fell slightly, and the reading at 5 p.m. was 29.95 inches. Wellington—The weather yesterday was fine and warm, with a light northwesterly wind. The minimum temperature on Thursday night was 54.3 degrees, and yesterday 75.0. At 3.30 p.m. the barometer registered 29.86 inches.

Dunedin —Yesterday was fine, with sunshine and a slight breeze from the north-east. Towards evening the breeze dropped, and the weather was warm. The maximum temperature was 67 degrees. The barometer fell considerably, and read 29.80 inches.
