CHEAPER AIR MAILS
TO THK EDITOR 07 Til* TRESS. Sir, —Your leading article on the value of cheaper air-mail between England and New Zealand, coupled with your candid criticism of the remarks passed by the members of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, undoubtedly deserves wholehearted support.
The value of this service to New Zealand, socially and commercially, apparently is entirely overlooked in the face of "lost in transmission" arguments put forward by this body. Assuming through a major disaster, a complete disruption of one eight-day air service did happen, what advantage would the sea-transmitted mails hold if it takes a month by this method?
Copy of business correspondence is always kept; obviously the next aavilable flying-boat service must reach its destination (England or New Zealand) days before the arrival of the mails dispatched by sea. even had these been dispatched simultaneously with those, "lost in transmission."— Yours, etc.. S.W.K. January 21. 1938.
