Large cargoes of fertilisers from many parts of the world will reach Auckland in the next few weeks by specially chartered ships. In the first few months of every year ships usually arrive with full basic slag cargoes, and five vessels are now en route to Auckland from Belgium. The first slag ship to arrive will be the Moor Line steamer Orangemoor. which will end a two months' voyage from Antwerp on Monday morning. The Port Melbourne is due from Antwerp, via Australia, on February 6, and the direct steamer Fernmoor should arrive two days later. iThe Blue Funnel steamer Asphalion is expected via West Africa and Australia about February 11, and the British motorship Lpngdon will also arrive from Antwerp next month. Four thousand tons of guano will be discharged by the Finnish barque Pamir, which Is nearing Auckland from Astove Island, in the Indian Ocean, and a further cargo of guano should arrive from Nossi Be, an island off Madagascar, by the barque Penang, next month. Part cargoes of basic slag have been arriving from England, and large quantities of sulphur have been earned by ships from. Japan and Texas. An exceptionally busy period has also been experienced by the Bri, tish Phosphate Commission, with ships from the Nauru and Ocean Island phosphate grounds.
