DEFENCE MANOEUVRES AT SINGAPORE
♦ SEA, LAND, AND AIR FORCES TO COMBINE (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.) RUGBY, January 19. In combined sea, land, and air operations at Singapore on February 5 the new batteries which have been completed at Singapore will obtain their first opportunity to engage targets in mimic warfare. In reference to the opening of the new Singapore dock, it is pointed out that it is well understood that it involves no threat to any Power, merely representing commonsense insurance by Britain for the defence of the Empire's trade routes. Defensive measures against air attacks in Malaya have been receiving the same attention as elsewhere, and the civil Government is co-op-erating on this occasion in the practice of black-outs, which will be conto selected areas of the island.
