BOY DROWNED IN SURF
♦ EVIDENCE AT INQUEST (PSESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, January 20. The disappearance of Jack Page, aged 13, the son of Mr Arthur William Page, of Mount Albert, from the rocks at Bethel's Beach on January 14 was investigated at an inquest held before Mr F. K. Hunt, Coroner. Mrs Page said they had been camping at the beach, and were lishmg from the rocks. Her sou asked if the party had been catching any fish, and as they had not, it was decided to move to another point. When the party arrived at the new point there was no sign of the boy, who had been gathering mussels. Witness went back, and found a bag containing mussels on a ledge about 30 feet above the water. The boy's rod and line were floating in a whirling pool in the surf. A thorough search was made, an aeroplane from Hobsonville flying over the beach, but the body could not be found. Constable Pollard gave evidence of finding the body later. A verdict was given that the boy was accidentally drowned through falling from the rocks.
