MEMORIAL TO HE ERECTED AT AUCKLAND [THE PRESS Special Service.) AUCKLAND. January 18. Approval .of the suggestion that there should bo a permanent memorial in Auckland to Captain Edwin Musiek and (lie crew of the Samoan Clipper, together with a promise to give his services to any committee that might bo set up for this purpose, was given by the Hon. T. Bloodwofth, M.L.C.. chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board. "Quite apart from anything that may be done by a memorial committee. I intend to recommend at the first meeting of the Harbour Board that the board itself should provide a suitably inscribed tablet, to be erected at the Pan American Airways base in Auckland, setting out the facts of the clipper’s visits here, (he disaster to it. and the names of the men involved,’’ said Mr Bloodwofth. “As the board lias been closely associated with tlic cbnpcr and its crow. I think it is appropriate that it should erect a separate memorial of (his kind.” “A Fine Gesture” "On behalf of Pan American Airways I must say that tlt is visit by the Matua is very greatly appreciated indeed,” said Mr Harold Catty, referring to tho short service conducted by Captain Prosser, of tho Malua. at the, position where the crew of the Samoan Clipper mot (heir tragic end. “It was a very fine gesture," Mr Catty added, “and it wiH croate a deep impression on the minds of the American people.” RESOLUTION OF SYMPATHY A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of Captain Musiek and the crew of the Samoan Clipper and with Pan American Airways was passed at last night’s meeting of the board of directors of the Young Men’s Christian Association.
