SEVERAL HOUSES ENTERED

JEWELLERY AND MONEY TAKEN JUVENILES THOUGHT TO BE RESPONSIBLE Several houses in the city and suburbs have been entered in the last few days, and the indications are that most of the work has been done by juveniles. From several of the houses jewellery and money have been taken, and in others rooms and drawers have been ransacked. The numerous inquiries have kept the detective staff busily engaged. Last Friday the house of Hannah Jane Hecker. at North Brighton, was entered and a quantity of jewellery taken. The same day some money was taken from the house of Mr Charles E. Piercy, in Gloucester street. During the week-end the house of Mr R. H. Snowden, Redcliffs. was broken into, and the premises were rsnsdckcd Mrs S. H. Smith Dawson's house in Papanui road was entered during the same period, and jewellery end otner articles were taken. A ccmsiderablc amount of jewellery was taken from the house of Mr J. C. Scott, in Bligh’s road, also during the week-end. During the absence of the occupiers over the week-end. the house of Mr Fred Chapman, in Idris road, was entered. The rooms were ransacked, and some jewellery was later found to be missing. Jewellery was also taken during the week-end from the house of Mr James N. Matthews in Fendalton. Archibald’s Garage was entered on Saturday evening and £ls 2s Bd. the evening’s takings at the garage petrol station, were stolen from a small store. In this case an arrest was made late last evening.
