TRAMWAY WORKSHOPS AWARD
FURTHER ADJOURNMENT OF DISPUTE A dispute to decide whether foremen should be included in the Christchurch Tramway Board Workshop Employees’ Award was reopened in Conciliation Council yesterday morning, and adjourned, after discussion, until February 21. Hours and wages affected by the award are matters of discussion in the dispute. The dispute was heard before the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr S. Ritchie. The appointed assessors for the board are Messrs H. E. Denton. E. Parlane. G. Manning. H. E. Jarman, and the Hon. J. K. Archer, M.L.C., and for the men. Messrs G. T. Thurston. R. Jones. R. Hawkins, and J. Dunbar. Messrs Archer and Manning were absent yesterday, and one of the reasons for the adjournment was to enable the whole board to consider the dispute. During the session 1936-37 there were 252,603 students enrolled in the educational institutes aided by. the London County Council, an increase of 12,121 on the previous session.
