LINDBERGHS RETURN TO AMERICA
ELABORATE PRECAUTIONS ON ARRIVAL (Received December 6, 7.5 p.m.) ENGLEWOOD (New Jersey), December 5. Colonel and Mrs Lindbergh returned after nearly two years of voluntary exile, presumably to spend Christmas and the New Year with Mrs Morrow. They will go to England in January. Their children remained in England. The Lindberghs arrived at New York aboard the liner President Harding after a voyage surrounded by secrecy, during a portion of which Colonel LindbergM, disguised with dark glasses, assumed the name of Gregory. It is believed that they are guests to-night behind the heavily guarded walls of the Morrow estate. Although all those connected with the family denied their arrival there was bustle and activity round the estate throughout the day. Twelve policemen patrolled the grounds and electricians were .busy stringing wires from a police booth at the entrance of the grounds to the house. It -was learned that the couple boarded the liner at Southampton just before she sailed from a car instead of the customary boat-train. They were addressed as Mr and Mrs Gregory when they boarded the liner, although neither that name nor their own appeared on the passenger list. They revealed their identity to a steward, who was the first to visit their cabin, where they dined for two days. Later they sat at the captain's table, their companions including Dean Carpenter of Exeter Cathedral. FRENCH SLOOP TO VISIT SYDNEY ♦ CARNIVAL FOR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS SYDNEY, December 6. Advice has been received that the French Government is sending a sloop to Sydney for the sesquicentennial celebrations. The French training ship Jeanne d'Arc will also be in Sydney next February. The British Government hopes to send a cruiser, and a vessel from the New Zealand fleet is expected also.
