FINE OF £SO ON BOOKMAKING CHARGE
(PBKSB *.SSOCIATIOX TILIGBAV.) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 6. Ronald Archibald Allen, a bowser station proprietor, of New Plymouth, pleaded guilty to-day to a charge of bookmaking. and was fined £oo.
A disturbing discovery was made recently by a Rotorua workman engaged in dismantling an old house near Atiamuri when a large parcel suddenly crashed through portion of the ceiling and fell at his feet. The parcel contained a quantity of gelignite and several detonators, and had apparently been pla=ed on one of the rafters some time previously. Not very long before this incident a lorry in the same vicinity ran over a parcel lying on the road. The driver was informed next day that the parcel contained explosives, which had been placed at the top of a cutting and had rolled down on the road.
