WATER RESTRICTIONS LIFTED
♦ DECISION OF KAIKOURA COUNTY COUNCIL The Kakoura County. Councl helc its monthly meeting on Friday evening Cr. F. J. Monk presided. The secretary of the Kaikoura Beatr tifying and Improvement Society wrote asking if the water restrictions under the new by-law could be lifted on two afternoons in each week. The requesl was granted. ~ The secretary of the Kaikoura Cricket Club applied for permission tc use the Takahanga Domain for cricket matches with visiting teams on December 27, 28, 31, and January 1. The request was granted. Mr J. McDonald, Aniseed, applied for a taxi stand at West End. The appli :ation was granted. The Mayor of Blenheim (Mr J. Stevenson) invited representatives of th« provjase* of Marlborough to attend fi
meeting to consider the question of Marlborough being adequately represented at the Centennial Exhibition to be held in Wellington. It was decided to send representatives to the meeting. The executive officer of the healtn camp at Rangiora, wrote asking for contributions ot the funds. The engineer reported that Me ssrs C M. Brown and Company, Ltd., had recently patched the State Highway in the Kaikoura township. Subject to an inspection by an officer from the Public Works Department, this contract could " now be considered completed. A plank of oregon had been placed across the middle Kowhai ford. A beginning had been made with the dismantling of -the hand-rails on Cribb creek bridge, before widening the clearance between the wheel guard rails, to enable the bridge to be used by larger lorries. A "letter was received by the council from the Commissioner of Transport, Wellington, about the speed limit for motor-vehicles in a certain area of the township, which had been set down and notified in the Gazette. The maximum speed was 30 miles an hour.
