PIGEON FLYING
AVONSIDE CLUB The Avonside Racing Pigeon Club held a race from Woodville on Saturday. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster in thick, misty weather at 8 a.m. This accounted for slow velocities and the small number of members timing in. The winning bird, owned by Mr O. Freeman, flew the 282 miles 1595 yards airline in 12hr 26min 57sec. The following are the results:—O. Freeman's Invicta, 667.2 yards a minute; H. W. Wright's Discount, 666.0; A. Walsh's Rainbow's End, 648.0; M. Williams's Logan's Pride, 574.8; L. Mclntyre's Black Crow, 559.2. CHRISTCHURCH PREMIER CLUB The Christchurch Premier Pigeon Club conducted a race from Waiouru recently. Fine weather enabled the birds to establish fast times. The winning bird, owned by Mr W. Drury, flew the 323 miles 880 yards air line in Bhr 19min. Results were as follows:—W. Drury's Springbok, 1141 yards a minute; A. Frandsen's Great Scot, 1139; G. Anderson's No. 381, 1139; W. Newell's Se Lo, 1137; K. Robinson's No. 608, 1130; A. O'Brien's Little Bee, 1126; McNeish Bros.' Biplane, 1111; W. Gray's Big Hit, 1109; P. Crooke's No. 953, 1108; V. O'Grady's Birthday Greetings, 1105; Evans and Johnstone's Valspear, 1095; A. Scott's Alert. 1044; O. Manson's No. 53. 983.
