Festivity Week

Several suggested attractions for Rangiora's festivity week just before Christmas were considered at a meeting of the executive arranging the week yesterday morning. Mr D. Appleby presided. Among the attractions to be included in the week's programme will be an open-air dance, a swimming carnival, and children's parades. It is probable that a bonfire will also be lit one evening, with a coloured water fountain display as an added attraction. A lucky spot competition for wearers of festivity week badges is also being considered. Personal The Rev. H. Ryan and Messrs H. A. Bennett and M. H. Hamilton will represent the Rangiora Methodist Church at the annual North Canterbury District Synod of the church, beginning in Christchurch to-day. Mr Ryan is secretary of the synod. Arrangements for the children's health camps, which will begin at the Rangiora racecourse on November 29, were made at a public meeting in the town last evening, Mr D. Appleby presiding. Mrs M. A. Ellen, a member of the executive of the Canterbury and Westland Health Camp Federation, under whose control the Rangiora camps will be, explained that there would be four camps of boys and girls alternately, each lasting a month. The 40 children at each would come from various parts of Canterbury and possibly some from Westland.

The meeting was poorly attended, but those present were representative of the townspeople. The importance of interesting more people was emphasised, and sub-committees were appointed to take charge of the various activities.

AKAROA BEATS LITTLE RIVER

Playing at Akaroa on Saturday, Akaroa defeated Little River by 82 runs. Akaroa scored 178 (R. Masefield 89, T. Masefield 20, A. Vaatau 20). Little River made 96 (M. Coop 29, W. Hutchinson 29). Bowling for Little River, W. Coop was the most successful. R. T. Masefield, O. Ives, and R. Curry were the best of the Akaroa bowlers.

KAIKOURA BRASS BAND

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

Mr A. S. Robinson presided at the annual meeting of the Kaikoura Brass Band. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mr Ray Cooper. The secretary submitted the balancesheet showing receipts at £37 9s 2d, and expenses at £35 18s 6d, leaving a credit of £23 10s Bd. The excess of assets over liabilites was £396 lis Bd. CHEVIOT PERSONAL NOTES

Misses Bertha and Jessie Forbes, who spent last week in Christchurch, have returned home.

Mrs L. H. Marshall, who has been spending a holiday at Timaru, has returned home.

Mrs T. Atkins (Hastings) is visiting her mother, Mrs S. E. Clarke Mrs Geo. D. McDonald, who has been visiting relations at Waikuku, has returned home.

DANCE AT AKAROA

An enjoyable dance was held in the Akaroa Boating Club's Social Hall on Saturday evening, when a number of the company from H.M.S. Leander was present.. Music for the dancing was played by the Revellers' Dance Orchestra, and Mr W. R. Miles was master of ceremonies.

RED CROSS SOCIETY AT

KIRWEE

A meeting of the Kirwee sub-centre of the Red Cross Society was held recently. The president (Mrs R. S. Roper) presided. It was decided to send a gift to headquarters to the Far East Relief Fund. The stickers in aid of the appeal are selling freely.

Mrsr B. Reveley (Kimberley) is on a holiday visit to her daughter, Mrs H. J. Edge, Cave, Sjouth Canterbury.

OMIHI The monthly meeting of the Omihi Women's Institute was held recently, the president (Mrs D. Little) presiding. An interesting talk was given by Miss Harrison on "Palestine." A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mrs Glennie.

Mrs H. Inch presided at the November meeting of the Peaks Women's Institute. Mrs C. McKeegan gave a report of the half-yearly meeting of the North Canterbury Federation. The meeting of the Okain's Bay Women's Institute was held recently. Mrs Challies presided. It was decided to make inquiries regarding a link in Great Britain.

The Misses Mary and Nancy Moore were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the excellent work they had put into the banner, which was awarded second place at the North Canterbury Federation's meeting recently. Monthly competitions were won as follows: —Pair tea waggon covers, Mrs G. Challies 1, Mrs P. Moore 2, Mrs G. Boleyn 3: jar flowers, Mrs G. Challies 1, • Mrs J. Harris, jun., and Mrs G.
