TEST FOR DEGREE AT SEA

PERMISSION GRANTED

YOUNG STUDENT

EXAMINATION TO BE HELD

ON AORANGI

(FHESB A.BSOCHTIOS TXLZGBMt.)

AUCKLAND, November 14,

Special permission to sit for a degree examination while a passenger on the Aorangi from Auckland to Sydney on Wednesday has been granted a young Auckland student, Miss Patricia Webb, by the Auckland University College authorities. Miss Webb, who will # leave Auckland by the Aorangi o'n Tuesday en route for Singapore, will sit for the examination in Latin for the Bachelor of Law degree on Wednesday afternoon under the supervision of an officer of the liner or some other approved person. Her examination will coincide with that being held ashore, and at the conclusion her paper will be locked in the ship's safe and then posted to Auckland under seal when the liner reaches Sydney. The chief supervisor at the college, the Rev. A. J. Greenwood, said the circumstances were exceptional, but the university's method was to help students as much as possible commensurate with proper supervision. So long as a responsible person was in charge it was quite safe to ailow the examination in this way. .. Miss Webb is an inexperienced sailor and is therefore combining last-minute study of Latin with the acquisition of knowledge of how to prevent seasickness.
