PIGEON RACING

AVONSIDE CLUB

The Avonside Racing Pigeon Club held a race from Clinton recently. The birds were liberated by the stationmaster at. 8 am in a light south-west wind, which enabled the birds to put up fast times. The winning bird, owned by A. Wright and W. Wright, Master Woodville, flew the distance in 4hrs 49min 32sec. Results, with velocities in yards a minute, were:—A. and W. Wright’s Master Woodville, 1527, 1; O. Freeman's Ambition 1526.4, 2; W. Clemens’s Black Bullet. 1525.2, 3: M. Williams’s Inquisitive. 1522.2, 4- ,W Vallence's Tiny, 1526.90, 5; F. Carv’ille's Musto. 1521.12, 6; H. and R. BakeFs Little Jem, 1496.04, 7; A. Laffey’s Dawn. 1450.02, 8; L. Mclntyre's Little Lass, 1437.06, 9- R. Lowcay’s Silver Spot, 1437, 10; E. Simons’s No. 27, 1435.08, 11; W. Hall’s Happy Days, 1388, 12. The club also held a race from Invercargill. The birds were liberated at 7.30 am in an easterly wind, which slowed the birds considerably. The winning bird, owned by M. Williams, Miss Royal, flew the distance in Bhrs 42min 35sec.
