SHORT-WAVE BROADCASTING STATION

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir —ln this letter I am not concerned with’the idea of a short-wave station I wish to correct some views held by •■Listener." He mentions, m his letter, “small boys." Well I might say that these “small boys” received no end ot thanks and praise from the directors of short-wave stations. One director, in a letter, states that the different DX associations and clubs, which consist of “small boys/’ are as important to him as the customer is to the shopkeeper. Imagine the director sifting in his office in America and trying to find out how his programme is being received here in New Zealand without the aid of “small boys.” Look at the expense of sending men out here when all he has to do is to read letters sent to him by "small boys.’ The small bovs” have helped to make radio what it is to-day. I am not referring to the programmes. , , „ Recently some of the small boys received in Christchurch specially printed report forms from the shortwave station in Geneva and were asked to fill them in and post them back to the station every month. I expect the station went to this trouble just to provide fun for the smell b °lf S “Listener” would care to tune in to Station VK3ME any night of the week he would hear the announcer ask for reports—again, to provide fun for the “small boys.” Perhaps listener has heard of the inspector employed by the Government to trace electrical noises which interfere with average listeners. ‘Well ask him who it was that asked the Government to employ him. Again you will find the “small boys." The “small boys” seem to be in everything, don’t they? Yours, etc.. SMALL Eoy November 8, 1937,
