GIANT AND PIGMY
GREENHALGH AND JACKSON SHOW
After an extensive tour of the world in search of new wonders for their side-shows, the well-known showmen, Greenhalgh and Jackson, are again in Christchurch. They will present many new acts and features in their sideshows at the Agricultural and Pastoral Association show this week. They have brought with them Princess Pontus, the giant Amazon from Brazil. This giant woman, who will appear at the show, is the last of the famous tribe of head-hunters from South America, and, weighing 48 stone, and standing Bft 2in in height, she is said to be the heaviest and tallest woman in the world. With her will appear Isom, the African pigmy man. During their performance, the pigmy takes a butcher’s hook of steel, places it through his tongue, and lifts a 281b weight on it. He also eats fire and walks on broken glass. America’s Smallest Woman
An addition to the numerous attractions to be presented at the Christchurch Show is Dollita, the little American cinema star—America’s smallest woman. This miniature Mae West from Hollywood has a charming personality, and will give expression to the famous line: “Come up and see me some time.” Dollita is just 20 years old, weighs 371b, and stands only 28 inches high. Dollita was a favourite at the Sydney Royal Show, and she promises a novel and interesting performance. Dollita and Polly Moran are very close friends. Pig Circus
At the Christchurch Show will be Marjorie Van Camp and her famous trained pigs. At the Brisbane Exhibition two months ago his Excellency the Governor of Queensland paid the pig circus a visit and expressed surprise at the feats performed by the animals. A two-round fight is staged between “Dempsey" and “Tunney,” famous pig fighters. The pigs jump hurdles, ring bells, and climb ladders. There is even a sharpshooter in the troupe.
