SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S SLOW SCORING

(CKITI3J P*ESB itSOCIi-TIOM-COFTKIQIK-) (Received November 7. 9.30 p.m.) ADELAIDE, November ~ The weather was fine and the wicket in excellent order for the continuation of the New Zealand team, game against South Australia >e--terday. . South Australia is now *-*b run* ahead of New Zealand on first innings, but the team had to battle hard all day for this advantage, in the face of remarkably accurate bowling and fielding. The slow scoring can be attributed more to the high standard of tn* bowling than to lack of enterprise on the part of the batsmen. Of the fast men, Cowie was easu> the most impressive, but one of the best performances was given by the medium right-hander Roberts, who at one stage had bowled 18 overs for only 22 runs. Vivian also kept an immaculate length all day. Taken all round the bowling was a surprise. Seven bowlers were used to test the batsmen. An early sensation was the dismissal of Bradman from the first ball he received from Cowie. It was an extra fast one, which he snicked, and Tindill held an easy chance. Bradman had not added to his overnight score of 11. It was a disappointment to the big crowd, which was expecting a spectacular partnership between Bradman and Badcock. Badcock's century, Bradman's sensational dismissal in the first over, and a solid innings of 56 from the young Adelaide batsman, Hamence who is mentioned as a possibility for the English tour, were the highlights in South Australia's innings. Badcock's 114 was encouraging from the test viewpoint. Fine driving and forceful late cuts featured in his innings, which included six fours and occupied 257 minutes. Tindill became something of a hero in catching Bradman and Badcock. Both were smart efforts, but his work was only in keeping with the superb fielding of the rest of the team. Some idea of the slow scoring can be gained from the fact that 50 runs took 61 minutes, 100 runs 136 minutes, 200 runs 250 minutes, and 250 runs 321 minutes. At the end of the day Grimmett ricked his right leg while batting. but the injury is not serious. Scores:—
