CANON H. R. L. SHEPPARD
TO THB EDITOR, OF THIS PRESS. Sir, —The writer of to-day’s obituary notice, while making casual reference of his being “one of the signatories” to a peace proposal, seems to have lost sight of the fact that Canon H R. L. Sheppard was a complete pacifist, and, since the Great War, spent the greater part of his life in trying to bring homo to everyone the utter waste and uselessness of wai. With Brigadier-General Crozrer, Mr George Lansbury, Lord Ponsonby. Canon Raven, Aldous Huxley, .and other prominent persons, he founded the Peace Pledge Union, which is a very strong body in England to-day. and pledged to absolute pacifism. He also wrote a great indictment of war Curiously enough, I had to point out the same omission of pacifist convictions when Brigadier-General Crozxer dl lt'would be interesting to know if it is only a coincidence that your obituary writer, whilst detailing the other work of these famous men, omitted all mention of the work to which ialter gave the greater, part of their latter y ears __the cause of paciflsm.--Aours, etc " y.
