OFFICIAL FORECASTS i i; [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, November 5. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: North-easterly winds prevailing on the coast during the daytime but otherwise westerly to northwesterly; force, moderate to strong; weather fair, hazy, and mild; seas rather rough to rough north of Kaikoura, but elsewhere slight to moderate.

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South T sland is:—

Moderate to strong northerly to north-westerly winds; weather becoming cloudy to overcast and rain developing; temperatures mild; seas moderate but rising somewhat.

DOMINION The forecast fo” the Dominion is:—

Weather fair to fine In most districts of the South Island; later conditions becoming more widely unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect; temperatures mild. An ant’-cyclone extends across the north Tasman Sea and the North Island, but it has been losing intensity. A fresh series of westerly depressions are moving from Southern Australia across the South Tasman Sea.

Winds—Variable at first over the northern half of the North Island, but northerly or north-westerly soon predominating; strong about Cook and Foveaux Straits, but otherwise moderate. but freshening generally south of New Plymouth. Seas (Nei Zealand waters) —Rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits and elsewhere light to moderate, but rising on the West Coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light and variable winds at first in the northern portion, but otherwise northerly to northwesterly prevailing and becoming strong in the southern portion; seas slight to moderate, but rising in the southern portion.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch was fine but a strong wind from the north-east kept temperatures low. The maximum during the day was 60.2 degrees. The evening was clear and warm. At I o’clock this morning the sky was clear, and a light easterly breeze was blowing. The temperature was 52 degrees, and the barometer was steady at 30.01 inches. Auckland —The day was warm and sunny, the maximum temperature being 71 degrees. Throughout the day the wind was light and variable. The barometer was high, but showed a falling tendency. The reading at 5 p.m. was 30.15 in.

Wellington—The day was fine and sunny with a strong north-westerly wind. The minimum temperature on Thursday night was 43.7 degrees and the maximum yesterday 62.0 degrees. Dunedin—The sky was overcast, but there was no wind and temperatures were mild. The maximum was 64 degrees. The barometer fell to 29.94 in.
