DROUGHT FEARED IN MARLBOROUGH
DRY WEATHER AFFECTS CROPS

BLENHEIM, November 2.
A gloriously fine week-end brought to a close one of the hottest and driest Octobers experienced m Marlborough for many years. In Blenheim only 17 points of ram fell on five days, compared with 1.95 inches for 12 days in October last year Indications at present are for a serious drought, and already most of the crops have been detrimentally affected. For the last 10 months, the total rainfall has been 17.24 inches, compared with 22.87 inches for the same period last year. Temperatures have been unusually high for the last two months, and in October alone 262 hours 54 minutes of sunshine were recorded, compared with 221 hours 36 minutes for the same month last year. There were only three days in the month in which the sun did not shine. The hottest day was last Saturday, when a temperature of 86.2 degrees was registered in Blenheim.
