ELLESMERE COUNTY COUNCIL
Members present at the monthly meeting of the Ellesmere County Council were Councillors J. Heslop (chairman), A. Quigley, J. P. McEvedy, D. Marshall, A. Anderson, and R. T. McMillan. Subsidy on rates amounting to £768 15s 8d was received from the Government. The Doyleston Athletic Club thanked the council for assistance in improving the racing track at Osborne Park. • The Public Works Department approved proposals made by the engineer for forming and metalling Millar's and Rapley's roads at a cost of £6BO, subject to the head office in Wellington agreeing to the work being done by day labour with the council's plant. A grant of £5 was made to the Far East Relief Fund appeal. Because of increased costs, the council decided to raise the charge for grading work for the Leeston and Southbridge Town Boards to 10s an hour. It was decided to purchase the eggs of injurious small birds at 2d a dozen. Consideration was given to a proposal to raise a loan for the payment of half of the council's share towards the sealing of the main highway from Ellesmere bridge to Southbridge. It was decided to make application for payment to be spread over a period of three year.s. The chairman said that the road had been surveyed and i a beginning would be made soon.
MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING
KILLINCHY CLUB
There was a good attendance at the annual ball and presentation of trophies held by the Killinchy Miniature Rifle Club. Dance music was supplied by Mr Colin Campbell's orchestra, and Messrs W. G. McIlraith and L. Chappell were the joint masters of ceremonies. Prizes for a Monte Carlo dance were won by Miss Moorhead and Mr Moorhead. At cards, the successful players were Miss McLaughlin and Mr G. Power. Mr J. E. Millar, president of the club, presented the trophies.
