OFFICIAL FORECASTS

[THE PttESS Special Service] WELLINGTON, November 2. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours .following the time of issue, is as follows:

Moderate north-easterly winds during: the daytime in coastal areas, otherwise south-westerlies to westerlies prevailing, and at times freshening; weather for the most part fine with warm day but cool night temperatures; a few isolated local showers probable, however, more, especially inland; seas, rough north of Kaikoura, but elsewhere slight to moderate*

WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:—

RTjderate to fresh south-westerly winds prevailing; weather for the most part fair, but occasional passing showers probable; temperatures cool to moderate; seas slight to moderate, but with a considerable swell..

DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is:—

Weather still for the most part fine with warm day, but cool night temperatures; occasional passing showers, however, in the western and far southern districts of the South Island, and a few isolated showers probable elsewhere. An anti-cyclone still extends from south-eastern Australia across the Tasman sea on to the Dominion. A series of slight secondary depressions continues to pass in the far south, and conditions are rather disturbed in the north and especially the northwest Tasman Sea.

Winds—North-westerly to westerly at times in the Cook and Foveaux Straits areas and on the east coast, but south-westerlies predominating; force, mainly moderate, but strong and

squally at times in exposed positions about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough, about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere slight to moderate, but a considerable swell on the west coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea —Moderata to fresh southerly to easterly winds in the northern portion and fresh to strong south-westerlies in the southern: seas, moderate to rather rough.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The weather in Christchurch yesterday was sunny, with a light easterly wind in the morning and a moderate north-easterly later in the day. The maximum temperature was 70.3 degrees.

At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was clouCea and a strong easterly breeze was blowing. The temperature was 52 degrees and the barometer, rising rapidly, registered 29.96 inches.

Auckfand—The day was cloudy, with a fresh south-westerly wind. The maximum temperature was 68 degrees. The barometer fell slightly, the reading at 5 p.m. being 30.15 inches. Wellington—The day was again brilliantly fine, with a fresh north-west-erly wind. The minimum temperature on Monday night was 50.0 degrees and the maximum yesterday 65.7 degrees, Dunedin—There were bright sunshine, a blue sky, and passing clouds, and there was a strong south-westerly wind The maximum temperature was 62 degrees. The barometer fell to 29.90 inches, but was rising later.
