MOTOR-CAR OVERTURNS AT YALDHURST PASSENGER SERIOUSLY INJURED Serious head injuries -were suffered by James McCarthy, of 368 Valdhurst 1 road, when a baby car in which he I was being driven overturned on the Main West road near Yaldhurst at 11 o'clock yesterday morning. There were three other men in the car, and they escaped with a severe shaking i and minor abrasions. ! The car. which was being driven by George Arthur Kirner, of Kingsley street, Chrislchurch, was gonig west along the road, when apparently a tyre burst, and it capsized into the loose shingle at the side of the bitumen surface and then rolled right over on to its wheels. McCarthy, who was in the back sooi, was unconscious, and Kirner, after helping to get him out, left for a farmhouse to obtain help. When he returned he found that McCarthy and his companions had disappeared. It was discovered later that a passing motorist had picked them up and taken them to the Christchurch Public Hospital. The other occupants of the car were Clive Hughes, of Moorhouse i avenue, and James Ccssar, of 308 YaldI hurst road, who was treated as an outpatient at the hospital. The car was badly damaged. McCarthy was on the seriously ill list at midnight. PEDESTRIAN INJURED H. Squires, of 36 Oxley street, suffered slight head injuries when he was knocked down by a motcr-cycle on the Victoria street bridge shortly after 7 I o'clock on Saturday evening. Struck down by a motor-car as he stepped from the footpath to cross a street in Mount Albert read at about 6.30 on Saturday evening, Harold Arthur Rogers, single, aged about 50 years, died in the Auckland Hospital this morning. Rogers suffered concussion, a compound fracture of the right arm, and injuries to his back. Three persons saw the accident and a description of the motor-car, which did not stop, was given to the police.
