SPRINGS COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETLNG HELD The members present nt the monthly meeting of the Springs County Council were Crs. J. S. J. H. Williams. P. V. Bailey A. E. Payne. J. Words, and C. H. Watson. The finance statement showed a debit of £P7O lis Od. In rcp'y to a request from Springs, the Ashburt~n county engineer gave details of a method of destroying willows. A letter from the Automobile Association, Canterbury, about posting notices restricting the speed of motor vehicles through built-uo areas was discussed, and the council dee'ded that there were no areas in its district where such notices were required. A donation of £5 5s was made to the Canterbury Progres3 League. The chairman renorted th~.t the survey of the remain ng portion of the Sockburn-Southbridge highway for sealing has been made, and plans were n preparation. He understood that it was intended to deal with the unsea ed lengths between Sprngstonand Southbridge at the same time. The chairman was authorised to make Inquiries about the cost of making and driving piles for a bridge near Ford, and to report at next meeting. A report on the recent conference in Christchurch with the Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, about county amalgamation, was given by tne chairman, who, in a short discussion, saw that some form of amalgamation was bound to come.
