PLANS FOR NEW BUILDINGS
CHRISTCHURCH TECHNICAL COLLEGE MORE LAND ACQUIRED "I think 1938 will be an. epoch making year for the Christchurch Technical College," said Mr T. W. West at a meeting of the Board of Governors of the college last evening. Mr West said he had hopes of seeing the foundation stone of a new college laid early next year. Later he announced that the board had been successful in securing a piece of land now occupied by tne New Zealand Breweries' malting house. This land was approximately three-quarters of an acre and, with the area now occupied by the college, it would make about three and a quarter acres. The board had asked for authority to draw up plans for a new block of concrete buildings. When the plans had been approved by the authorities, it was proposed to submit them to the college staff for criticism. The new buildings would differ from the old ones in that they would be uniform throughout. The old buildings were unsatisfactory, as they had been added to at different places, from time to time. "The Prime Minister has said that there is plenty of money and that all we have to do is ask for it. I can see no better field than education to spend it in," said Mr West.
