JACK AND THE OCTOPUS One day Jack was going home from a day's fishing when he felt something pulling him into the water by his leg. An octopus was holding him tightly. The octopus said: " I will let you go if you do two things for me." The first thing that the octopus wanted Jack to do was to find the largest and heaviest jewel under

the sea. "And you have only three weeks in which to find it," said the octopus. Jack searched hard for two days, and then he found a huge jewel that weighed two tons and a half. The octopus gave him a reward, a jewelled bicycle. Next, Jack had to find a precious stone. He found this, too, and the octopus gave him a watch.
