BADMINTON
NEW ZEALAND TOURNEY SEMI-FINALS PLAYED (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, September 10. Sparkling badminton was seen on the third night of the New Zealand championships, particularly in the semi-finals of the A grade men's and women's singles events. Results of the semi-finals in the championship were:— Men's Singles—P. Hawksworth (Masterton) beat R. Stark (Otago), 15-0 15-5; J. Spedding (Taranaki) beat D. Reid (Wellington), 15-4, 12-15, 15-11. Women's Championship Singles-Semi-finals—Miss M. Edmondson (Auckland) beat Mrs P. Hawksworth (Masterton), IJ-4, 11-2; Miss M. Kerr (Otago) beat Miss N. Fleming (Masterton), 11-7, 11-7. Men's Championship Doubles—Semi-" finals: P. Hawksworth (Masterton) and G. A. Pearce (Wellington) beat D. Reid (Wellington) and J. Tansley (Otago), 15-1, 15-5; J. Spedding (Taranaki) and P. Anderson (Auckland) beat G. R. Dickinson and J. R. Laidlaw (Otago), 15-12, 15-7. Women's Doubles Championship— Semi-finals: Misses M. Edmondson and J. Ramsay (Auckland) beat Misses B. Werner and J. Emslie (Otago), 15-12, 15-7; Miss M. Kerr (Otago) and Mrs P. Hawksworth (Masterton) beat Miss Fairbairn and Mrs Salisbury (Southland), 15-7, 15-5.
