MOTOR VEHICLE CENSUS
* EVERY MONTH SETS NEW* RECORD The use of motor vehicles in Newi Zealand is increasing so rapidly that every month of the last year has been a record for registrations. The transport division of the Post Office finds that the highest registrations are made in December, and the figures then fall off to the lowest point, which is reached in May of each year. May of this year was, however, a record month, the registrations of new vehicles being 3001, compared with 2420 in May, 1936. The remarkable expansion shown by the latest figures comes more strongly into relief when the motor registrations of last May (3001) are compared with the total of 327 in May, 1933, and 425 in May, 1932. With registrations taking rilace at these rates the results for the seven months of 1937 (January-July inclusive), compared with the corresponding months of the previous year, constitute a series of new records, and demonstrate how rapidly the motor fleets of the Dominion are increasing: . 1937.. 1936. '.«' 1,837 1,320 New comm'L vehicles 5,334 4,175 Total <7 months) 24,128 18,802 There is a, corresponding activity in changes of ownership of motor vehicles, the Transport Division having had to deal with no fewer than. 87,535- such notifications during the first seven months of the current year.
