Sir Charles Clifford left for the north by the steamer express last evening. Bishop J. A. Kempthorne, of England, who is touring the Dominion, will leave for the north to-night. Mr A. R. Shepard left by the steamer express last evening on a visit to Wellington. Commander J. S. Head, R.N.. officer in charge of staff operations at the Wellington Navy Office, arrived from Wellington yesterday morning, and will leave for the north to-night The following appointments have recently been made in the staff of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd.:—Mr Clarence Pilling, sub-accountant at Christchurch, has been appointed manager at Mosgiel. in succession to Mr C. R. Mazengarb. who succeeds Mr J. A. West in the Dargaville management. Mr West has been appointed manager at Palmerston North on the retirement on pension next month of Mr Alex Grigor.—Press Association. At the annual meeting of the Parliamentary Press Gallery yesterday Mr J. A. Young, of the staff of the “Dominion,” was elected chairman, and Mr E. C. Marris (“Evening Post”) vicechairman. Mr H. B.
