PatefSori was born, m o*^g 1880- After a distinguished school career she graduated M.8., Ch.B. *t the University of Otago in 1906. SUBDr. Paterson proceeded to GrTat Britain for post-graduate study, taking additional qualification* at Dublin University.

It jvas really the Welfare of the cliildfefl that TO. Paterson made her life work. In 1916 She I was transferred to Wellington, and in 1923, on the" retirement Of Dr. B. HlWilkinS; Dr. Paterson was appointed director of ttie school hyjienedivijsion of the Department df Health, a Position which she filled with distinction up to the time of her death; Dr. Paterson was a merhber of trie committee of the New Zealand university Woitteh's' federation and an dffidial visitor to the Women's Borstal Institution- ~ Her wise arid sympathetic Handling bt ihe many problems of childhood earned her the esteem arid affection 6i many generations of school children and their parents, as weil as the confidence of the educdtiohal authorities. After entering the service of the .GoVeru-r ment, Dr. Paterson travelled abroad on two ccasions. Her last trip was in 1935, on which occasion she represented New Zealand at an important conference cbhhected with the" League of Nations at Geneva. Her unusual intellectual capacity, her wise and sympathetic knowledge of humanity, and her clarity of judgment all combined to make her an outstanding personality. Her position in tne department afld the community will be hard to fill.

WELLINGTON, August 26. , The death has occurred of air W. Roberts, who from 1889 to 1903 made 47 appearances for Wellington as a versatile Rugby back) playing ih every position in the back line. He represented New, Zealand against Queensland in 1896, aha the following year was called td Australia when Duncan was injured. For many years he was in the employ of the Wellington Harboiif BearTa.
