NATIONAL PARTY'S PROGRESS

Statement of Policy Next Month?

APPRECIATION OF LEADERSHIP

(PRES 3 ASSOCIATION TELEGHAM.)

WELLINGTON, July 2. A two-day caucus of the National Party, under the chairmanship of the Hon. Adam Hamilton, concluded in Wellington to-night. All members of the party were present, and reports were received from all parts of the country indicating substantial progress. Mr Hamilton declared that the organisation had reached a state of efficiency never before approached in his experience. Many new branches had been formed, and members who had been engaged on a Dominion campaign reported a big swing toward the National Party, particularly in dairying districts and the larger centres.

The principal business engaging the attention of the caucus during its two days' deliberations was that of policy. Considerable progress was made, and the matter will be further discussed when the Dominion council meets. Special committees were set up to consider various subjects. A number of remits and suggestions from various branches and business and pastoral organisations were collated and dealt with in preparation for the Dominion council meeting. It is expected that Mr Hamilton will be in a position to give an outline of the policy at the annual conference of the party next month. The meeting placed on record its appreciation of the great progress made by the party under the leadership of Mr Hamilton.
