The Mayor (the Be v. W. H. A. virlcerv) presided at a meeting held in the Kaiapoi Borough Council Chambers on Thursday evening, when it was decided to open a public subscription list to provide a suitable memorial to Dr. Maxwell Ramsay. Representatives were present from the Kaiapoi Borough Council, Kaiapoi Returned Soldiers' Association. Tuahiwi Maoris, Kaiapoi Working Menls Club, Kaiapoi branch of the Labour Party. Kaiapoi Rugby Football Club, and Kaiapoi Golf Club. The following committee was set up:-The Mayor. Messrs J. H. Mealings, F. Richards, R. Bartley, W. H. Stark, G. Hirst, F. Neale, B. Leaver, J W. Karaitiana, F. G. Kirkpatrick, and B. F- Joyce (secretary).

Borough Rates The borough rates to be considered at a special meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council on Tuesday next show an increase of more than Jd in the £, as compared with the previous year, provision having been made in the estimates expenditure for £3OO, the borough's portion of the sealing of the Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi main highway. The additional hospital levy also necessitates a small increase or about l-5d in the £.
