TO-DAY'S SPORTS PROGRAMME

LEADING RUGBY TEAMS TO MEET

REPRESENTATIVE ASSOCIATION MATCH

The meeting of two of the leading senior Rugby teams, a representative Association football match, and the 25 miles road cycling championship of Canterbury, are among the interesting events on to-day's sports programme in Christchurch.

The most keenly-awaited club Rugby match of the season will draw Rugby enthusiasts to Lancaster Park. Sunnyside, champion team in 1936, and now the leading team in this year's competition, will meet Old Boys, who are level with University, one point behind. These teams met in the first match of the season, Sunnyside winning narrowly in a fine game. Since then both sides have had vicissitudes, but thev have emerged as the two most likely championship winners of the season. Other senior games will be:—Sydenham v. Merivale, at Rugby Park; Albion v. Athletic, at the Show Grounds; University v. Technical, on the south ground at Lancaster Park, and Christchurch v. Linwood, on the west ground. Christ's College will play St. Bcde s College at Northcote in the annual Rugby match between these two schools. The match for the Gore Cup between the Hornby and Addington Club teams will be the principal event of the day for League enthusiasts. This game will be at Sydenham Park at 2.45, and will be preceded by a senior match between Linwood and Sydenham. A strong Association football team from Wellington will challenge Canterbury for the English Football Association Trophy at English Park this afternoon, and an even game is expected between two first-class sides.
