APPEAL BY LICENSEE

LIQUOR SUPPLIED BY WIFE TO GUESTS

t£'U_«9 ASSOCIATION TILKGKAM.) WELLINGTON, July 2. The hearing of the appeal of William Mackenzie in the Court of Appeal was continued to-day.

Mr C. H. Taylor, for the respondent, submitted that the licensee's wife was in the same position as a servant in supplying liquor after hours, and authorities showed that a servant was not entitled to supply his guests after hours on licensed premises. Further, if the Court should take the view that the position of a licensee's wife was the same as a ledger on the premises, and that she had a common right in law to entertain her guests on the premises, then it was contended that a lodger committed an offence if he supplied his guests with liquor during closed hours. Judgment was reserved.
