Two Sources Tested FILTRATION THOUGHT TO BE NECESSARY Alternative schemes for the supply of water for the domestic purnoses of the community at Little Sver are to be-Placed before the Wairewa County Council at its next meeting by the Medical Officer of Health for the Canterbury-Westland health district, Dr. T. Fletcher Telford. Each scheme will involve the installation of filtration plant, and each will ensure an ample and continuous supply for the township. Attention was drawn to the absence of a regular supply and to the drawing of. supplies from the dirty Takatiri Tawai stream during dry weather by an article in "The Press" at the end of last year, and since then the Department of Heakh has been investigating possible sources of supply. Tests have now been taken of the stream water and the source from which the Little River Hospital draws its requirements, Dr. Telford said yesterday, and these were the only sources which seemed likely to provide a sufficient and continuous supply for the township. Any scheme for the use of either of those supplies, however, would involve the construction of filtration tanks. In these the water would be purified, and the tanks would also probably be big enough to hold a stocK supply sufficient to meet the requirements of the community for two or three days in the event of a breakThe two schemes which Dr. Telford will recommend to the Wairewa County Council are based on these two sources of supply, but Dr. Telford will not say, until the report is considered by the council, which of the alternatives the department favours. -
