GERMANY AND ITALY
. —♦ A DEFENSIVE ENTENTE ANNOUNCED PROTECTION OF NATIONAL PRINCIPLES ROME, June 4. Signor Virginio Gayda, writing in the "Giornale d'ltalia," announced that Italy and Germany have formed a defensive enteni3. He declared that Italy and Germany were associating their spirits and forces in the defence of their great national principles. "The entente will one day be revealed in its true worth, as a .protective force, not only in our own mutual interests, but also those of the whole of European civilisation," the article added. A Rome message states that competent circles point out that the Italian and German defensive alliance has now been formed, although the general understanding is that it contains nothing aggressive.
