Li-utenant-Colonel A. J. Manson, M.C., of Hastings, has been appointed Sergeant-at-Arms in the House of Representatives. This was announced on Saturday morning by the Speaker (the Hon. W. E. Barnard). He will fill the vacancy caused by the death of Colonel S. G. Sandle.—Press Association. Dr. F. Birkinshaw left for Wellington by the steamer express on Saturday evening. He will join the Port Hunter at Auckland to-morrow to leave for London, where he will take postgraduate studies at University College Hospital. Mr A. E. Hefford, Chief Inspector of Fisheries, returned to Wellington on Saturday evening. Professor James Shelley, Director of Broadcasting, arrived from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr S. Ritchie, Conciliation Commissioner, returned on Saturday morning from Wellington, where he presided at the hearing in Conciliation Council of the Dominion licensed hotel employees' dispute. Memhers of Parliament who arrived by the steamer express from the north on Saturday included Messrs C. M. Williams, T. H. McCombs, and Dr. D. G. McMillan. The Rev. W. J. Hands was a passenger by the steamer express from the north on Saturday. Mr B. E. H. Tripp arrived from ,the north on Saturday. Mr H. D. Acland arrived from Wellington on Saturday. Wing Commander L. M. Isitt was a passenger by the steamer express from' Wellington yesterday. The following have been appointed members of the South Rakala Domain Board: Messrs J. S. Connolly, W. J. Lee, H. C. Nelson, H. A. Harrison, J. F. Langley, B. McNamara, and H. J. Conway.
