MAGISTRATE'S COURT

SATURDAY. (Before Mr F. F. ficid, S.M.) CHARGES ADJOURNED William Neilson Taylor, aged 47, a cook, of Homer street (Mr A. C. Bretherton), was charged with being found helplessly drunk, and with twice breaking a prohibition order. Senior-Sergeant D. L. Calwell said that Taylor had been on, a drinking bout, and he suggested he should enter a home for medical treatment. Taylor had come into a large sum of money recently and had drawn £BOO from his account. Since May 20 Taylor had spent £135. jj The charges were adjourned until June 18, on condition that Taylor enters hospital for medical treatment. REMANDED FOR SENTENCE Arthur Aloysius Barnard, a carpenter, aged 29, of Strickland street, appeared for sentence on a charge of having been found unlawfully on enclosed premises on May 8. He was also charged with drunkenness on June 4. On the first charge he was remanded for sentence until June 10, and on the second he was fined £1 and ordered to pay costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. _ FIGHTING IN STREET Robert Christopher Nelson, aged 22, a labourer, of Antigua street, and George Gemmell, a labourer, aged 37, of Barbadoes street (Mr C. V. Quigley), were each fined £1 and ordered to pay costs for drunkenness, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Each was convicted and discharged for fighting in public. LICENCE SU SPENDED Frederick Clark, a painter, aged 38, of Cowlishaw street pleaded guilty to a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car. Senior-Sergeant D. L. Calwell said that, Clark had not been seen driving the car. A constable hadnoticed him walking to his car and had questioned him when he sat down. Clark was convicted and fine £lO and ordered to pay costs. The Magistrate ordered Clark's licence to be suspended for six months. Default for non-pay-ment of the fine within 14 days was fixed at '2B days' imprisonment.
