New Zealand took all the honour* on the second day of the uiatch against Northamptonshire. The county team was dismissed for 185. Dunning taking six wickets fo. 8 runs and Gallichan three for 32. New Zealand (first innings 3341 then made 230 for three in its second innings. Excellent batting form was shown by Kerr (83). Wallace (48), and Carson with 52 not out. Northamptonshire was forced hard to avoid a follow-on. Dunning bowled swingers excellently, and once had four wickets for 18. Three men were caught in the slips and one was stumped through the ball rebounding from the wicketK. C. James, the former New Zealander, saved the county side from total collapse. was comparable to his best form in New Zealand. He drove with great power, and hit 12 fours. Gallichan’s slows bothered the batsmen, and Donnelly was used to break a troublesome partnership. Roberts was persevering, but had poor luck. The New Zealand fielding was splendid, and good catches were taken by Weir, Lamason, and Tindill‘ Kerr Brilliant New Zealand rattled on the runs in its second innings, batting for less than three hours. Kerr was gliding and cutting the fast bowlers beautifully, and occasionally driving and hooking powerfully. He hit nine fours. It was a brilliant display. The consistent Wallace again played a workmanlike innings.-hit-ting five fours. Carson found the form which he had lost since the first match.
