Mr Arthur’s early years in Dalgety and Company were spent in various departments, including the merchandise, grain and seeds, and accountancy departments. In 1922 he joined the firm’s wool department and assumed control of the wool skins, and produce export department in 1924. In 1926 and 1927 he acted as wool auctioneer. He was the Dunedin delegate to the conference in Wellington on the wool-scouring subsidy scheme. He is on the committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Through family associations he is a director of J. J. Arthur, Ltd., retail clothiers, of Dunedin.
