UNITED STATES WOOL BUYING

HEAVY INCREASE DURING 1936 Substantial increases in the imports of wool into the United States in 1936 are revealed in figures supplied by the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, Washington. The figures show that the raw wool imported amounted in 1936 to 253.988,0001 b as against 200,461,0001 b in 1935—an increase of 27 per cent. These imports comprised 169,229,0001 bof carpet wool (including 715,0001 bof camel’s hair) and 84,759,0001 b of grades other than carpet wool, as against 171,504.0001 b carpet wool (including 570,0001 bof camel’s hair) and 23,957,0001 b of other wool in 1935. The increase of 300 per cent, in the case of wool other than carpet wool is phenomenal and the comment is made that generally speaking “carpet wools” are not competitive with “domestic wools.” The following countries participated in the supply of the respective grades of wool: — Carpet Other
