RUGBY FOOTBALL FIXTURES
TO TBX BOITOB Or TWt PRESS. Sir. —In the fixtures arranged by the Canterbury Rugby Union, our representative team is to play West Coast on Wednesday, June 9, and again on Saturday, June 12. the Buller team. May a keen supporter suggest that this latter fixture is not a good one from the point of view of our local club competition. At this interesting stage it is extremely discouraging and unfair to the leading teams, and likewise all the supporters of the game, to find that these clubs will have to field sides minus some of their key players, for the sake of an uninteresting fixture which no one on this side of the divide cares two hoots who wins. University, Sunnyside, and Old Boys at least can he left with their entire teams, and if it is imperative that the match should be played, a combination from the spare parts of all the remaining clubs will be quite good enough to fill the obligation and no doubt trie Buller fans would be tickled to death were their team able to pile up a cricket sgore against any old team from this side.— Yours, etc., OUR OWN FIRST. June 4, 1937.
