A German firm has evolved a new method of helping musicians in their study. It is making gramophone records of orchestral music and in each record the part of one instrument has been left out. so that the student may himself supply the missing music. A sheet is sold with the record giving the missing music. So far 100 different records have been made. Of these ■he majority lack the first violin part, but others have been made for use with the second violin, viola, ’cello, and piano. The records have been made by the Vienna Chamber Music Orchestra and include works by Bach. Handel. Haydn, Mozart. Beethoven, and Schubert. They are graded according to difficulty. It is anticipated that 2500 delegates, including many distinguished visitors from overseas, will attend a meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science at Nottingham from September 1 to September 8.
